GC Author at Wigtown Book Festival
Posted on Tuesday, 17 August 2010 03:36PM by
The new programme for the Wigtown Book Festival is now available and here at GC Books we are delighted that our author Bill Simpson will be taking part in this prestigious event. On Tuesday 28th September Bill will be appearing in the County Buildings at 4.30pm to talk about his book 'Spitfires Over Scotland' published by GC Books. The biography of the Castle Douglas solicitor turned Squadron Leader details his distinguished career and early death. The first Auxiliary pilot to command a regular RAF squadron, Patrick Gifford also found fame as the first British pilot to bring down an enemy place over Britain during the battle of the River Forth. Bill's marvellous book provides the enthusiast with an authoritative picture of the RAF during the inter war years and also the excitement and danger of those early months of the Second World War. Bill's writing style means that the book is a thrilling read for those without a background knowledge of the RAF. Interestingly one of the senior sponsors of this year's Festival is Baillie Gifford, a firm connected to Patrick Gifford's family. Tickets to see Bill at the Festival are £6 and available from the Box Office tel 01988 403222 or via the website
