| A day devoted to Dumfries and Galloway at this year's Wigtown Book Festival will feature two GC authors. GC Books will be launching a biography of Patrick Stewart of Cairnsmore on Tuesday 27th September with a fascinating talk by author James McCarthy. 'A Galloway Hero' details the extraordinary life of this pioneering Victorian whose short life featured adventure, reckless bravery combined with an exceptional scientific mind. He served his country not only as a soldier but also as a pioneer of telegraphic communication, connecting continents long before the world wide web. James McCarthy will be appearing at the County Buildings at 1.30pm. Book early, there's sure to be a big demand for this event. Train enthusiast Alasdair Wham will be speaking about his favourite subject in the County Buildings at 4.30pm the same day. Alasdair is the popular author of a series of 'Lost Railways' titles for GC Books. In a talk entitled 'Railway Ramblings', the retired teacher will be revisiting some of his journeys along the lost railway lines of Scotland. In the children's programme GC will be launching not only a new book but also a new and exciting venture for director Beverley Chadband. 'The Belties of Curlywee Farm' is a new book written by Jayne Baldwin and illustrated by popular local artist Pauline James. It is the first in a series of children's books to be published by Galloway Children's Books, a new division of GC. The charming story aimed at the under fives features the first adventure for new characters Finlay and Flora the Belted Galloway calves. The Festival event will feature a reading of the book followed by games and activities with the Pauline and Jayne. Join in the fun on Sunday 25th September at 11.30am in the children's marquee.
