New Publication. Stapled book with card covers. B/w ilustrated. Biography of Patrick Stewart, born to a prominent Galloway farming family in 1832, his childhood, military career, as an Engineer in India and his involvement with the Indo-European Telegraph and became Director General of the Telegraph at 31. This enormous task took its toll and he died in 1865. A large glass wiindow was erected in his honour in KArachi Telegraph Library and another in the family church at Minnigaff, Newton Stewart not far from his birthplace.
