GC Books, Wigtown - Scotland

GC Books, Wigtown - Scotland's Book Town.

Welcome to the GC Books website. GC Books Limited has a large Book Warehouse, located on the Bladnoch Bridge Estate approximately one mile from Wigtown, Scotland’s National Book Town and currently carries a stock of approximately 30,000 books.

Our stock is mostly secondhand and includes a wide and varied subject range but our largest catalogues are Antiquarian, Scottish Interest, Transport, History, Military History, Theology, Letters & Diaries, Crafts, Proof Copies and Topography.

GC Books Limited is also a respected publisher of local history titles. Past publications include a range of walking guides along disused railway lines by Alasdair Wham, fiction titles by local historian Donna Brewster, West Over the Waves, The Final Flight of Elsie Mackay by Jayne Baldwin and a number of military history titles relevant to Dumfries and Galloway including RAF in Galloway and the Mulberry Harbour Project in Wigtownshire 1942-1944, both by A T Murchie.  One of our most recent publications is Solway Sunrise : The Complete Ferryman Stories, a book on Wildfowling and Punt gunning on the Solway Firth in the 1960s and 70s, edited by Desmond Batley. Our latest title is a new biography of Spitfire hero Squadron Leader Patrick Gifford by Bill Simpson.

Visits to the warehouse are strictly by appointment only but please be warned, we are a warehouse and not a shop, consequently our stock is organized by number so that we can fulfill internet orders quickly and efficiently, rather than by subject. We will happily provide a list of the numbers indexed to a particular subject and assist with locating them but browsing our stock in the traditional sense is not easy.

Our shop, Solway Books, is located in the nearby harbour town of Kirkcudbright  - check out the shop website www.solwaybooks.co.uk for more information on Kirkcudbright, the Arists Town.  Solway Books carries a stock of new titles including local maps, history and scottish interest books, as well as a good selection of modern fiction and a well stock children's book section.  Approximately 50% of the floor space is given over to secondhand books.

We offer a Free Book Search Service for hard-to-find titles and out of print books please complete the form and submit it.  Alternatively we have a team of experienced staff at Solway Books if you wish to discuss your book request.  Please do not hesitate to contact us.
